About

Hi, I'm Brian.

I've been riding bikes for twenty years, and these days I'm working my way back to riding them well.

WS

I started riding at 19. Through my twenties I raced a lot, and raced pretty well: I made it to Cat 1 on the mountain bike and Cat 2 in cyclocross. Off-road was always where I was happiest.

Winters were for skiing. When I needed something to keep the motivation up between race seasons, I picked up cross-country skiing too. Wheelieslow came out of those years on the bike, and the name stuck.

Then the injuries started

My mid-to-late thirties have been a run of setbacks:

  • 2020: tore my ACL in a skiing accident. Surgery, rehab, and eventually back on the bike.
  • 2024: diagnosed with costochondritis and off the bike for almost a year.
  • January 2026: hurt my SI joint playing pickleball.

Someone once told me my lack of stretching would catch up with me. They were right.

So this is the comeback

I’m 39 now, and I’m spending more time in the gym lifting and on the wall climbing. I’m trying to build a body that can keep doing all of this into my forties. The 2027 season is the test: gravel in the spring, the Leadville races in the summer, and an honest account of what it takes to get there.

This site is where the full story lives: race reports and training notes, the 2027 calendar, and the occasional ski or climbing trip.
